Why Hospice Volunteers Matter

Hospice volunteers offer presence, connection, and support that can make a tremendous difference in the lives of patients and caregivers. Sometimes it is a conversation, a quiet visit, a smile, or simply sitting beside someone so they do not feel alone.

Volunteers help extend the compassionate care provided by our clinical team and remind families that they are supported by an entire community.

Volunteer Opportunities

We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities to match different interests, schedules, and comfort levels.

Volunteer Directly with Patients

Volunteers may visit patients in their homes, assisted living facilities, and nursing homes to provide companionship and emotional support.

Examples include:

  • Talking and listening 
  • Reading aloud  
  • Playing music 
  • Watching television together 
  • Providing caregiver respite 
  • Sitting quietly with patients
  • Playing card/board games
  • Coloring/crafts

    Hospice House Volunteers

    Hospice house volunteers help create a warm and welcoming environment by:

    • Greeting visitors 
    • Assisting at the reception desk 
    • Answering phones 
    • Supporting staff with non-clinical tasks 
    • Offering comfort to families

    Administrative & Office Support

    Volunteers also support behind-the-scenes operations through:

    • Filing and organizing 
    • Mailings and clerical tasks 
    • Preparing admission packets 
    • Helping with special projects 
    • Assisting departments as needed 
    • Assisting with fundraising events

    Rainbow Kidz Children’s Grief Program

    Volunteers help us keep our Rainbow Kidz services available to the community at no cost. 

    • Working Directly with Children: including Camp Rainbow and our Healing During the Holidays Gathering
    • Event & Administrative Support: including our Timmy Belcher Memorial Rainbow Kidz Run, and helping with office tasks

    Volunteer Training & Support

    No medical experience is required to become a hospice volunteer. We provide comprehensive training and ongoing support to help volunteers feel prepared and confident. 

    Our Volunteer Services team works closely with each volunteer to find opportunities that best match their interests, comfort level, and schedule.
