Programs - Gordon Hospice House
Nestled on six acres in the heart of Iredell County, the Gordon Hospice House is a new state-of-the-art, nine-bed facility that ensures no one in Iredell County and the surrounding communities will have to die without the care, comfort and compassion provided by our hospice team.  The state-licensed and accredited hospice house offers a warm and inviting home-like environment for  patients who are no longer able to remain in their current setting.  The Gordon Hospice House offers an alternative to home-based care, providing 24-hour professional hospice care.  Additionally, the Gordon Hospice House offers respite care and acute care to patients and caregivers who need a little extra support

Reasons a patient would come to live at the Gordon Hospice House are varied,  but the most common include: 

• The patient’s caregiver is not able to perform the needed care, or no caregiver is available in the home;
• Small children live in the home, and while the patient would prefer to spend their remaining weeks and days in a home-like environment, it is preferred the death not occur in the children’s residence;
• A patient desires to spend their last days in a home-like environment, but the complexity of their care will not allow a return to their own home.

The Gordon Hospice House also allows for a more timely discharge from the hospital.  In other words, those patients whose home environment is not suitable for complex treatment plans may leave the hospital sooner to come to the house.

The Gordon Hospice House provides patients with a beautifully decorated, warm and inviting, homelike environment in which to live, while they receive professional around-the-clock care.  Each patient room is amply sized to accommodate patients’ personal possessions and visitors.  A fold-out love seat allows for a family member to spend the night.  High speed internet access is available in each patient room and the two family rooms are equipped with computers. A Children’s Room provides games, toys and family movies for the young ones who are visiting. A bathing and beauty station offers weekly manicures, pedicures and hair cuts. Common areas include rooms for meditation, family gathering and dining. 

Screened and open air porches offer cool places to sit and enjoy the countryside.  A meditation garden with rock waterfall and labyrinth offer inviting areas for contemplating the mystery of beginnings and endings. Everything about the Gordon Hospice House says this is “home” --  one that provides comfort, compassion and care … when care matters most.
