Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County is proud to be a community-based, nonprofit organization. Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County is committed to providing quality, compassionate care to any individual needing this service. No one is ever denied care or access to hospice services due to inability to pay. Admissions are without distinction of race, national origin, handicap, age, gender, sexual orientation or religious beliefs.
In 1983, Congress passed legislation that created the Hospice Medicare Benefit, and today, more than 85% of patients at Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County utilize their Medicare benefits to pay for their hospice care. In other words, if you have Medicare, you are covered for hospice care! Others use their Medicaid Hospice Benefit, a state-funded benefit, and still other patients may have private insurance or the ability to self-pay.
The Hospice Medicare Benefit is unique among health care providers, as Medicare pays for the prescription medications for the admission diagnosis to hospice.
In addition to Medicare and Medicaid, many private insurance plans cover hospice care. Some patients with no insurance or government coverage (such as Medicare/Medicaid/Champus) are self-pay, and each year Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County provides care for the indigent as well.
Hospice care is reimbursed on a “per-diem” basis — that is, a set charge is assessed for each day of care, and this charge is all-inclusive for hospice services. This fee for service is set by the Federal Government (Centers for Medicare Medicaid Services). From time-to-time hospice patients may require hospitalization during their time with us, and if this is related to their hospice diagnosis, Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County is responsible for the charges as a part of their care.
In addition, donations, memorial gifts, honorariums, estate gifts, and United Way funding are the major sources of community support for Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County. The organization also welcomes gifts of stock, land, and other items of value to assist in keeping the operation healthy and available to all.
