History
The birth of Hospice of Iredell County can be traced back to 1982, when a group of forty concerned and interested citizens met at Trinity Episcopal Church in Statesville.  This meeting had “…as its primary concern, total care for cancer patients and their families in Iredell County.”

The Steering Committee became the first Board of Directors in 1983. The following year, Hospice of Iredell County was incorporated as a non-profit organization. Office space was procured in the upstairs of the old Post Office in downtown Statesville. Sixty volunteers were trained to work with patients, and the first patients were admitted in June of 1984.

Hospice of Iredell County became a United Way agency in 1986. In 1994, it moved to its current office at 2347 Simonton Road, between Davie Avenue and Signal Hill Drive Extension in East Statesville. (directions).

The organization grew steadily and in April 2000, Hospice of Iredell County opened a second location in Mooresville in order to better serve the residents of Lake Norman and south Iredell.  The Mooresville / Lake Norman office then moved to its current location at 150 Fairview Road, Suite 325, across from Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, (directions).

In 2004, the agency changed its name to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County to reflect its expanding focus on palliative, or comfort care.  Having received a Certificate of Need from the State of North Carolina, the organization established the Gordon Hospice House, a nine-bed, state-of-the-art residential facility located next to its office in Statesville.

As a community-based, nonprofit, 501(c)(3), Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County relies on the community to participate and invest in the organization. Donations, memorial gifts, bequests, and United Way dollars all help keep programs viable and growing.  With continued charitable support, Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County remains committed to excellence, operating with the highest standards of quality and compassion, and to putting the patient at the center of everything we do.

Terri Guzman serves as the President/CEO for Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County. The organization is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, a dedicated group of community leaders representing all geographic areas of Iredell County.
